why do some states have more representatives

The number of representatives to the US House of Representatives is determined by the population of the state. Reapportionment occurs after each decennial census. There are still discrepancies as to the number of constituents represented by each representative, which can vary greatly.

Each US state has two (2) Senators, but US Representatives are seated based on the population of the State, with no state having less than one.

There are a total of 435 members in the US House. California has the largest state population and has 53 seats in the Congress. Wyoming has the smallest population and has a single seat. Alaska is the largest state in area but has only a single House seat.

Rhode Island is the smallest state in area but has two House seats.
